It’s called Candylicious (great name) and it is 10,000 square feet of nothing but candy and sweets. Gummy bears, jelly beans, gourmet popcorn, ice cream, you name it. The store also boasts a 30-foot singing tree made out of chocolate and decorated with lollipops, which is now officially on my list of things I have to see before I die.
The store opened yesterday in The Dubai Mall, one of the world’s largest shopping centers. The mall expects to welcome 30 million visitors this year. Most of them will probably want some candy. The Candylicious store hopes to get 2,000 visitors every weekday and 7,000 on weekends. For those mall visitors who don’t make it to the Candylicious store, that doesn’t mean they can’t get candy. There will be a car named "Candylicious Junior" that will drive around the mall selling the store’s candy. It all sounds very Willy Wonka.
One thing to note: the “world’s largest candy store” claim is a little bit murky. Apparently, the Daffin’s Candy store in Pennsylvania covers more area (14,000 square feet). But the Candylicious in Dubai offers 3,000 different kinds of sweets in its 10,000-square-foot store, which they say makes it the biggest in the world in terms of “candy per square foot.”
Works for me. It’s a big candy store.
