Guess what’s back in style in Bavarian Germany? Lederhosen and dirndls. I’m defintiely not a fashionable person (I wear the same pair of pants every day), but this fashion update from Germany actually caught my attention.
I’m a fan of the dirndls and lederhosen, and according to the article, these outfits are way up in popularity among regular young people in Bavaria. Granted, the biggest sales come around Oktoberfest, but they say younger people have started wearing them more and more to weddings, parties, and other events.
Lederhosen are for men (short leather pants). Dirndls are for women (wide skirts and corsets). Dirndls in particular can come in all kinds of styles and colors. Plenty of opportunity to express yourself. Nowadays, people clad in the classic Bavarian garb even appear in the German edition of Vogue. And some of the country’s most exclusive designers now sell upscale designer dirndls.
You don’t have to go upscale to get a dirndl for yourself. Take a trip to Germany; there are plenty of places in Munich and elsewhere to buy your own affordable lederhosen or dirndl. I recommend it. Not only would you be ready for any impromptu German festivity, you’d also have a fallback Halloween costume.
