The London Olympics have spawned many, many stories in the news, but this one may be among the oddest. A British man named Nigel Parkes is riding London’s public transportation throughout the Olympics, and then making songs out of the conversations he overhears. Every day he posts a new song online.
I like this idea. It’s right up my alley. Though the songs aren’t exactly ones I’ll be listening to as I drive around town, I think the concept is very cool.
He travels around London on the Tube, the bus, and the other railways of the city. He writes down a conversation, sets them as lyrics, and brings them to a recording studio. There a local music production company turns the lyrics into a song by the middle of the next day. It can be rap, reggae, dub-step, whatever.
Weird, cool idea. Weird, not that cool music. Although, I will say, there’s something I like about Strange Birds.
